In 1791, Cécile Fatiman and Dutty Boukman presided over the ceremony at Bwa Kayiman (Bois Caïman), during which Cécile shared her vision for the success of the revolution. This painting contains cultural symbols of the Dahome tribe in Africa, the predominant source of the indentured in Haiti; and the Taino, who fled to Haiti from South and Central America from the Spanish.
